Alexandroupolis sets new CO2 reduction targets for 2030

IRIS project partner, the Municipality of Alexandroupolis recently renewed and underlined their commitment to CO2 reduction as part of the Covenant of Mayors.

In a clear commitment to Energy Action Planning and climate change mitigation, the municipal council recently authorised Mayor Mr. Zampoukis to sign an updated covenant setting a new target a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030.

Vice mayor, Ms Intzepelidou presented the cities climate change mitigation actions at a special event for local authorities to mark the signatory, co-organized by H2020 project C-Track 50 and the Covenant of Mayors.

The renewed target equates to a reduction in local CO2 emissions from 6 tons/person to 3,6 tons/person over the next ten years. To achieve this target, Alexandroupolis will take advantage of its participation in IRIS Smart Cities to accelerate knowledge transfer and access valuable information from experts and demonstration sites across Europe.
