University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest (UPB) is the largest and the oldest technical university in the country and among the most prestigious universities in Romania. The tradition of our institution, developed in over 190 years through the effort of the most important nation’s schoolmasters and of the generations of students, is not the only convincing reason. Today, the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest is undergoing a continuous modernization process, being involved in a permanent dialogue with great universities in Europe and all over the world. The mission of the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest has been thought over as a blend of education, research and innovation, which represents a key towards a knowledge-based society and economy. Creating knowledge mainly by scientific research, giving it out by education and professional training, disseminating it by information technologies, as well as the use of technological innovation are elements that define the university distinctive profile. Starting with 2002 UPB is member of Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research.

In the project UPB will be involved with Faculty of Power Engineering, founded in 1950, Department of Energy Generation and Use. The Faculty leaded in the last period 3 TEMPUS, 7 PHARE, 12 international projects, and starting with 2001 participated to 2 FP5 proposals: (MAESTRO) and (GENTIAN). Multiple contacts with different foreign partners from its area led to developing scientific contacts: France (Universite de Technologie Compiegne, Ecole des Mines d’Ales, Ecole des Mines de Nantes, Universite Poincare Nancy, Agence Nationale pour la Maitrise de l’Energie et Environnement), Italy (University of Trento, University l’Acquila, Roma 1), Germany (Technische Universitat Stuttgart), Great Britain (Kingston University), Sweden (Royal Institute of Technology).
