IRIS Smart Cities partner Municipality of Alexandroupolis has been identified by the Euro-China Green & Smart City Awards committee as one of a select group of innovative urban centers meriting international recognition. Alexandroupolis will be awarded a prize for its efforts in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart public policies at the prestigious event in Ningbo, China, 6-9 September 2018.
The event is organized by the Fondation Prospective & Innovation, a public interest foundation headed by the former French Prime Minister, Jean-Pierre Raffarin in partnership with the European Commission and the China Center for Urban Development.
Vice-Mayor of Energy and Natural Resources, Mr. Ioannis Falekas will be on site to receive the award and discuss with other city leaders about initiative in the IRIS project and beyond. As a follower city within IRIS project, Alexandroupolis is accelerating their development through a strong knowledge partnership and collaboration with Greek partners, CERTH and Energy HIVE Cluster in studying, designing and implementing projects and activities to foster the energy transition locally. Furthermore, Alexandroupolis is a privileged partner of smart city solutions demonstrated and supported by sustainable business models in the lighthouse cities of Gothenburg, Nice and Utrecht.
